How to Set Up A Passcode On iPad

Security is a big thing these days isn’t it? It is a wise move to lock down all of your devices in one way or another. Take your tablet for instance. By setting a passcode on your Apple iPad, you can protect your data in case it is lost or stolen. Setting up a code on your iPad really should be one of the first things that you should do. It is not difficult and in this guide I will walk you through each step.
iPad Passcode
1: Open the Settings app.
2: Tap the “Passcode” tab.
3: Select “Turn On Passcode”
4: Enter your desired pass code and then enter it again.
5: Once entered, your passcode is now set and the following options may now be selected:
  • Turn Passcode Off: this asks for the current passcode to be entered, then it removes it.
  • Change Passcode: You need to enter the current passcode to make any changes to the combination.
  • Require Passcode: You can now adjust the length of time that your iPad will stay unlocked during use before requiring a passcode to unlock it.
  • Picture Frame: Your iPad can act as a digital picture frame. Just alter the settings within this feature to tell the iPad which images you want to use for the Picture frame.
  • Siri: You can adjust the setting to On to access Siri in the lock screen.
  • Erase Data: If you want to be ultra secure, you can turn on this feature to erase all data on your iPad after 10 incorrect attempts at inputting your passcode. (Be Careful)
There you have it. Now you can be just that little more secure.

HTML5 Vs Flash

The debate over whether HTML5 will eventually take over Flash and render it obsolete has been going on for some time now. The arguement was further compounded when Steve Jobs famously declared in 2010 that Flash was “no longer necessary”.
The main difference between HTML5 and Flash is that HTML5 has mobile capabilities because it uses pure code to generate the interactive content. This means it can look and behave differently when seen on different browsers, which is ideal for web designers who want to create different versions of a website for various platforms. However, Flash has been around for almost as long as the actual Internet has and still holds some advantages over HTML5.
The following infographic examines the merits of both Flash and HTML5; we’ll leave it up to you to decide which one you prefer. Tell us whether you think Flash will ever become obsolete.

Pixar To Give Away Toy Story 3D Software

The first of its kind, Toy Story was an instant hit and was the first feature-length film done entirely in computer animation.  Pixar was on to a revelation!  Earning $361 million, it was the top grossing film in the first weekend it was out in theatres.
The film was created with software, RenderMan.  Other films that benefited from this advanced software was Monsters Inc. and Harry Potter.  Now, for the first time ever, it will be given away for non-commercial use for absolutely free!
Pixar developed RenderMan and is currently facing vast competition from other rivals in the animation department, such as VRay and Arnold.

Pixar is currently owned by Disney but still produces its own films and allows RenderMan to be licensed out to other rival studios. Pixar has also reduced the price of its software for commercial use.
Pixar has released a free version of RenderMan “without any functional limitations, watermarking, or time restrictions.  Non-commercial RenderMan will be freely available for students, institutions, researchers, developers, and for personal use,” Pixar has stated.
At the Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques (Siggraph) conference in August, Pixar is planning to release their product.  What does this mean for budding computer animators?  This technology revolutionised the film industry.  Perhaps more computer animators will be in the making.
What do you need to access the free software? Pixar’s website states, “RenderMan is advanced technology for shading and lighting. Because RenderMan is not an animation or modeling package, RenderMan must be plugged into one of the following tools, Maya, Houdini, Katana, or Cinema4D. If you use one of those packages you can try RenderMan. RenderMan by itself does not have a user interface or GUI”.
You can register now and you will be notified when the next non-commercial RenderMan will be available for licensing.

5000ppi Hologram Projection Phones To Arrive Next Year

The advent of lifelike holograms is upon us.  We have seen celebrities who are no longer around; appear on stageand ‘converse’ with real people thanks to new standards in holographic technology.  Imagine this type of breakthrough tech being wielded in the palm of your hand?  Well folks, we don’t have to wait too long as the technology, which makes an image ‘float’ as a 3D image in the air, is finally here.
The company that has made this breakthrough, Ostendo, has produced a hologram with a 5,000ppi projector.  It is this type of projector that should interest us, as they plan to fit it into smartphones in the second half of 2015.
3d hologram handsets
The hologram is created using six projectors, which layer light to create an image floating in the air, much like a real and solid object.  The discovery came from fusing an image processor with a thin layer of micro LEDs to create the Quantum Photonic Imager. The result is quite remarkable; a projector that is approximately the size of a TicTac candy. The projector is powered by the chip that controls the colour, brightness and angle of each individual beam of light.
When the holographic projector prototype, was demoed to The Wall Street Journal, it displayed a floating 3D dice.  This dice looked solid from all angles that it was viewed at. Unlike the iPhone’s Retina Display, which operates at 300ppi, this object is displayed with ‘almost real’ 5,000ppi projectors.
Ostendo has said they are working with handset manufacturers now for a 2D projector into a mobile device by the summer of 2015. The full 3D projector however, should arrive later in 2015.
The firm is aiming to make the pixels even smaller to enable higher resolutions. It will also be scaling up the size, to make 3D holographic projections, which can appear from our TVs!  As with all speculations regarding prototypes; until we see a working model, we’ll just have to keep on waiting.
