How the World Consumes Social Media

If Pinky and the Brain taught us one thing, it’s that taking over the world is difficult. But then again, social media makes it look pretty easy.
Over the past decade social media usage has been one of the most rapidly and universally adopted activities since the invention of breathing. More than half of the world’s 2.4 billion Internet users sign in to a social network regularly — a figure that is rapidly increasing.

The New MySpace: Music Meets Social, Done Right

The new MySpace is pretty. It incorporates many of the trends in modern web design and social media — big visuals, responsive design, easy discovery — and gives them a clear focus: connecting through music. And it really works.
You may remember the old MySpace (“MySpace Classic,” in the new site’s parlance). The old site was the one-time social media king, boasting more than 100 million users at its peak. However, it also had a Wild West reputation with a lot of NSFW content, chaotic user profiles (filled with tacky design and annoying auto-playing songs), and tons of spam accounts. When Facebook offered a cleaner, more manageable alternative, MySpace users abandoned the service in droves.

Android Will Have 1 Million Apps by June 2013 (And Will Outspace the Apple App Store)

When the OS war started back in the days, numbers were thrown around often and one of the supposed reasons why iOS was better than Android was the number of available apps. But as Android adoption grew, so did app development, and today both Android and iOS have more apps than we could ever use. All the major companies have apps for both platforms so numbers don’t matter that much anymore but since we all like numbers, let’s give it a go.
Just a few months ago, Google announced that it had reached 700.000 Apps in its Google Play store and it is said that Google is now just a stone throw away from catching up with iOS. According to a new report by The Sociable, Android app development is outpacing iOS and Google is expected to reach the 1 million app milestone before Apple does and this probably in June 2013. Hurray! If we all need 1 Million apps and if all those apps are useful or even functional is another question but hey, congratulations Android!
If you want to be able to have access to this wonderful one million Android App store, head over to www.electroshopworld.co.za and get yourself a nice Android Phone today at a low wholesale price!

Lens-Less imaging system for cars!

Scientists in the US have been researching in depth in the area of lesn-less imaging system, which could help avoid car collisions. Metamaterials have properties that are specifically designed, these samples infra-red and microwave light to help build the imaging system that is implemented. The sensors that are used operate in a unique fashion; they compress the image it is capturing rather than compressing after capturing the image. Digital cameras require a lens to concentrate a image on a sensor that has millions of tiny sensors within, and the more sensors there are then the better resolution image is produced.
The imaging system in question to be used in the way we could drive in the future actually has no lens but instead uses metamaterial mask and advanced mathematics to create an image. This combination helps to indicate light via wavelengths. Then the advanced maths is to use the retrieved data to create a 2D picture. At the moment this imaging system could capture around 10 images per second and compresses the data that is collected. This technology could be adapted into the body of a road vehicle so that it can read its surroundings. To read the full article please click here.
At Chinavasion we haven’t quite got the lens-less metamaterial to help prevent car collisions but instead we have a passenger that is the best witness no matter the problem. Our car DVR range is vast and is full of variety. Below are five of our bestselling car DVRs.

This car DVR also includes a backup G-sensor for guaranteed recording even in high impact collisions – truly a powerful car black box device.
When you’re not driving, just detach this car DVR and watch it transform into a personal handheld camcorder. Additionally you can take the car DVR dashcam right off the windshield after an accident and record the accident scene meaning you get both the accident footage and after accident footage all in one device! Select between different recording modes such as cycle recording to save memory, anti shake recording, and night vision recording supported by 8 IR LEDs. Plug in a SD Card up to 32GB to save all your recorded data and view it on the 270 degree rotatable flip-up screen or by plugging it to a HDMI cable.

HD 720P Car Black Box with Night vision + 2.5 TFT Rotatable LCD Screen
HD 720P Car Black Box with Night vision + 2.5 TFT Rotatable LCD Screen
This ultra compact Car DVR has two cameras that can both be rotated 270 degrees, allowing for recording high definition videos from two different angles. The night vision feature will also allow you to make clear recordings in relatively dark environments. Compared to normal car DVRs, this new model introduces two new functions. The GPS Logger allows you to open up Google Maps and you can instantly see your vehicle’s driving track, speed, time, and date. The G-Sensor that is also known as the gravity sensor, this car DVR detects and records any sudden motion or speed changes in X, Y and Z axis. As soon as any sharp braking, rapid acceleration, excessive cornering or sudden impact occurs, you can be sure this car DVR remembers.
In practice, cars DVRs are used to avoid fraudulent lawsuits due to road accidents. The dual cameras complement each other by recording in-car and what happens outside of it. In addition, this devices could also serve as an excellent company vehicle management tool to track the distance and route traveled of potentially slacking drivers.

How To Wirelessly Tansfer Files To Your Android Device

Transferring files from and to your Android phone can be a hassle. Finding your cable, connecting your device, opening up the right folders… And weren’t we told that wireless was the future? Most people now days have a Wi-Fi connection set up at home or even a mobile data plan for their phones. So why wouldn’t you use it to transfer files wirelessly? There are a few ways to transfer your files over the air.

WiFi File Transfer
First of all, you can use the Android app WiFi File Transfer to get the job done. This is probably the easiest and fastest way to do it. WiFi File Transfer is a popular app that works very well for moving files around on your home network. It doesn’t look too fancy but it gets the job done. The App produces a URL that you can type into your computer’s browser, which will give you access to the device’s memory and SD card as long as the app is running. From here, you’ll be able to upload and download files straight of your PC to your Android device or vice versa. The transfers are quick and depending on your router, even faster than a USB connection.
The free version of WiFi File Transfer is fully functional but you’ll only be able to upload files up to 4MB. So Music and Pictures can be transferred, for movies, you’ll have to upgrade to the paid version without file size limitations. The Pro version is available for only $1.40 and is well worth the convenience of never having to use a USB cable again.

Dropbox
By now, almost everyone is familiar with Dropbox. Storing your files on the cloud is hotter than ever. But did you know that you could use Dropbox to transfer files between Android devices? Here is how it works. File transfers won’t be quite as fast as they would be with direct Wi-Fi transfer, but working with Dropbox is quite flexible and offers storage on the cloud of all your files.
First, move all the files you want to transfer to your Dropbox storage space. Use the dedicated Dropbox app for Android and PC or do it through a web browser. As most people don’t have a fast upload speed, this might take quite some time. Generally, uploading a few pictures or some music shouldn’t take long but bigger files can take their time. When this is done, you’ll be able to access your files through your Android Dropbox App. You’ll even be able to do this on the go using your 3G or 4G internet connectivity. This will eat a bit into your data limit, but works extremely well. You’ll also be able to star your favorite documents for offline viewing and Dropbox is also great for keeping folders synced between your phone and computer.
There are many other options to wirelessly transfer files but these two are definitely the easiest. How do you transfer your files? Still prefer the good ol’ USB cable or have you moved to Wifi

How to Power Cycle Your Gadgets To Fix Freezes and Other Problems

How to Power Cycle Your Gadgets To Fix Freezes

and Other Problems

Have you ever had a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or any other electronic gadget become unresponsive? The surefire way to recover from the freeze – assuming it’s not a hardware problem – is by power-cycling the gadget.

1) Remove the Battery

If you have a device that appears frozen and won’t power on at all, pulling the battery is a good place to start. This applies to smartphones, laptops, digital cameras, and everything else with a removable battery.
Before removing the battery, ensure the device is unplugged – we want to ensure it isn’t receiving any power at all. Locate the removable battery, which will be in a different place depending on your device – you may have to pop the back off a smartphone, look at the underside of a laptop, or slide open a panel on a digital camera. Remove the battery, wait several seconds. Sometimes it’s necessary to wait longer up to 1hour. Try turning it back on — your hardware will often come right back to life.
Most geeks know that pulling and reinserting a device’s battery will force it to recover from a freeze and boot right back up, but what if the device doesn’t have a removable battery?

2) Long-Press the Power Button

Many new devices are coming without user-removable batteries, but users still need the ability to power cycle the gadget. If you have a device without a user-removable battery, there’s often a way to power cycle your device by long-pressing a button or two.
On a Nexus 7 or Kindle, long-pressing the power button for an entire 30 seconds will power cycle the device and force it to restart. This may also apply to other tablets and smartphones.
On an iPhone, you have to press and hold both the power and home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds.
You may have to look up the exact buttons required for your device, but this sort of trick works on all sorts of hardware. For example, on a Turtle Beach wireless headset, you can press and hold the mute button for 15 seconds to power cycle the headset.

3) Unplug the Power Cable

If you have a device with neither a battery nor a power button – such as a router or modem – you can power-cycle the device by pulling its power cord and plugging it back in. However, you should wait several seconds – or even several minutes, to be safe – before plugging the device back in. If you plug it back in too soon, it may not lose power entirely.

4) Use Reset Pinholes

Some devices have built-in batteries and won’t respond to long-pressing any buttons. These devices often have small, hidden buttons that you can press to power cycle them. These small buttons are referred to as pinholes because they’re located inside tiny holes in the device. You’ll need a bent paperclip or another long, narrow object to press these buttons and power-cycle the device.
You’ll generally find the location of a device’s pinhole in its manual. This applies to all sorts of devices – from wireless headsets to laptops.
Be aware that reset pinholes sometimes do more than simply resetting the device. For example, the reset pinholes on consumer routers generally reset the router to its factory default settings. To power-cycle the router without losing your settings, just unplug it and plug it back in.

I am sure many old school Bond fans remembered when Goldfinger tried to slice Bond into two with a laser, well, the part many men remembered was that Bond was tied down and split legged with the laser heading directly towards his ‘jewels’.

ESW has a few lasers of their own, which are more friendly to the genitals. The 350mW RGB Laser Projector is a good way to start your laser experience.
This laser projector includes a generous 2GB SD memory card, and with full RGB color animation, ILDA and 128 pre-programmed animations. Ideal for playing animations or lasers in sync with the music system in bars, nightclubs, parties, raves, pubs or home. Featuring a full range of functions including; sound active, auto beam, auto animation and SD control, this laser show system is great value. Its 10k scanner capabilities mean it will function at high speed, allowing for an amazing laser show!

Bond was known for having useful handheld gadgets and therefore ESW also believes that this Mini Laser Effects Projector fits the needs for today’s mobile society.
Until recently, laser shows have been something you could only see in professional clubs and million-dollar show productions. Now, this advanced piece of technology is finally within reach of everyone! The “Loopy Laser” transforms walls and ceilings into a magical light show experience. With a simple press of a button you can turn on the laser and switching between a single green laser dot and a moving red/green laser pattern is done by turning a switch on the side of the device. Fitting in the palm of your hand, this Mini Laser Projector is designed for indoors as well as outdoor use and will give your parties that extra twist!
Q wished Chinavasion was around many years ago.

Here is just a fraction of what ESW has to offer, the latest Android phones that Bond would have found useful 50 years back as he fought Dr. No, or the latest car DVD player to fit in his Aston Martin DB5 as he is being chased by some minority henchmen. If ESW was around when Q was around I am sure we could have saved him a lot of time and effort coming up with cool and useful gadgets. You can become your own spy with cool gadgets by logging on to ESW and purchasing some of our great deal at wholesale price. Just remember ESW products are shaken, not stirred when it comes to prices.
