Our digital life has become more and more important to us that we wouldn’t be able to live without it anymore. But what happens with your digital legacy once you’re not around anymore?
Google now has incorporated what they call the ‘Inactive Account Manager’ into its services. What will it do for you, you ask? Well, after a user-defined timeout period which starts from your last login, your Google account will be marked as inactive. Ofcourse, Google will first make sure your account is actually inactive by sending you a confirmation email and text message. If Google receives no response from you, contacts of your choosing can be notified after the timeout period that you are no longer using your account. There’s even an option to share data with those contacts at this time. Any of the following can be shared: +1s, Blogger, Contacts and Circles, Drive, Gmail, Google+ Profiles, Pages and Streams, Picasa Web Albums, Google Voice and YouTube. A warning text and email will be sent before any data sharing occurs. The final step is deletion of your account after 3-12 months, which is completely optional. Google will erase your account and its contents if you so desire.

Baidu Eye Aims to be a Google Glass Competitor

We’re afraid that Google Glass might not play the leading role now, as according to the reports from Sina tech, Chinese biggest search engine Baidu also has developed its own smart glasses called “Baidu Eye”. However, it is now still in a process of the test prototype, and may be Baidu will widely use the OEM production in the future.
Baidu plans to take advantage of the huge database technology and multimedia services to establish the ecosphere which is similar to the App Store, and also to set up the wearable computer industry standard. Once Baidu Eye is listed, users will be able to use the Baidu Eye to make a phone call, to surf the Internet, and to share photos.
Baidu accounted for 70% of the Chinese web search, and built its own services like Baidu Encyclopedia, Paste it, Baidu music etc. Perhaps Baidu Eye is more difficult to compete with Google Glass outside China; but it will undoubtedly occupy the Chinese market much more than Google Glass or other equipments that are difficult to enter the market of a population of 1.3 billion.

eBay Sellers and Buyers now have the opportunity to communicate and resolve issues about transactions before a case is escalated to eBay for review.
Starting on April 9, buyers will need to contact sellers first through the resolution center and must wait 3 business days before asking eBay to review and resolve transaction issues.
Sellers: Now you will always have at least 3 business days to resolve any issues about transactions directly with your buyers through the Resolution Center, before a case is escalated to eBay for review. (Previously a buyer could escalate after a seller’s first response.) If you and the buyer successfully resolve the issue during this time, the buyer will not need to ask eBay to review the case. You will have all the tools you need to resolve issues directly with buyers through the Resolution Center, and all related communications will be centralized to help facilitate an efficient resolution.
Opened cases no longer count
When a buyer contacts you about an issue, even though a case is automatically opened in the Resolution Center, the case will not impact your seller performance rating or Top Rated Seller status. Only cases that are escalated to eBay for review and are resolved in favor of the buyer will count.

The First Webcam Was Invented to Check Coffee Levels

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but laziness is definitely its father. Case in point, here’s an interesting tidbit of imaging history: the first webcam ever was actually invented by lazy students at Cambridge University who didn’t want to waste a trip to the nearby coffee pot if it was going to be empty when they got there.

This coffee machine that was the inspiration for the world’s first webcam was located in a corridor just outside The Trojan Room in the old computer lab at Cambridge University. In 1991, too many trips to an empty coffee pot led Dr. Quentin Stafford-Fraser and Paul Jardetzky to invent the world’s first webcam to help late night studiers and programmers keep an eye on coffee levels.

Once switched on, the camera would display a 129×129 pixel grayscale picture of the coffee pot at 1 frame per second on the user’s desktop. Ironically, the “webcam” actually predates the “web” by a couple of years, but as soon as the World Wide Web went up, the service was connected to the internet.
The camera was actually switched off in August of 2001, and all that’s left if you try and pull the feed is a link to the last ever picture the webcam took. The coffee machine itself was auctioned off on eBay for over $5,000 to German magazine Der Spiegel, where it was refurbished and put back to work by Krups.
