Microsoft is closer to bringing gamers a more immersive experience through Illumiroom, according to documents released online this week.
Microsoft’s IllumiRoom uses a Xbox Kinect and a projector to extend the gaming experience beyond the borders of the television. While a prototype of this was presented at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, documents released on
Microsoft’s Research hub indicate the project has moved beyond proof-of-concept.
The IllumiRoom first uses the Kinect’s camera to get a sense of the player’s living room. Then, the wide-field project, which sits behind the player, projects portions of the gameplay onto the surrounding living room landscape to achieve a broader sense of immersion.
