Ofcom, the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries has released a report showing that 4G communications in the UK was clocked at an average of 15.1Mbps (megabits per second) which is more than twice the speed of 3G which averaged 6.1Mbps.
One of the reasons people have been slow to take up 4G is because the perceived increase in data speeds wasn’t that great and additionally many 4G phones can be prohibitively expensive. However companies like ElectroShopWorld are trying to address this with unlocked 4G phoneshttp://www.electroshopworld.com/index.aspx?pageid=1748102&chainID=189072&txtQuickSearch=THL+L969+ at considerably less than most leading brands.
The report didn’t cover the whole of the UK but included 5 major UK cities. Overall London was noted as having the fastest 4G speeds but the slowest 3G speeds, which could be to do with the relatively large numbers of 3G users compared to those using the 4G network.
The researches is welcome news for phone manufactures and service providers as it proves “a significantly enhanced mobile broadband experience to customers” said Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards. The 4G network is expected to be available to 98% of the UK by 2017 at the latest and helps make the case for transferring to 4G.
